Zabit Magomedsharipov (17-1-0)
The talent-rich Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight division will be blessed with a barn-burner of a fight next weekend. Russian local, Zabit Magomedsharipov will step into the octagon with the American heavy-hitter Calvin Kattar.
In recent times, the UFC has seen an influx of extremely talented Russian fighters, Zabit being one of them. With a near close perfect record of 14-1, he’s taken the UFC by storm with his extroverted attacking style; an undefeated 5-fight win streak has propelled him into shark-infested waters in the top 5 of the division.
Zabit made his MMA professional debut in 2012 and would spend a further four years fighting for various Russian organizations. Most notably Absolute Championship Berkut (ACB) where he successfully won their Featherweight Grand-Prix tournament and the company’s Featherweight championship.
Prior to his professional MMA debut, Zabit trained at the renowned Wushu fighting school “Pyat Storon Sveta’; One of the academically recognized institutions for combat-sports. Wrestling from the age of 10, Zabit knew that fighting school would elevate his level of martial arts. He spent eleven years of training three times per day whilst gaining an education.
After years of experience gained, Zabit made the walk into a UFC octagon. The ACB champion signed a four-fight deal with the UFC to make his debut in 2017. An awe-inspiring second-round submission saw Zabit make his debut in style, and that trend would continue for the next two years. The stiff competition didn’t stop the Russians win streak; Sheymon Moraes, Kyle Bochniak, Brandon Davis and Jeremy Stephens would all fall victim to the new-comer. Now, with five fights and three submission finishes; Zabit finds himself a handful of wins away from a UFC title shot.
The gold is within reach, 1000’s of Russian fans will be cheering him on, and can the Russian Featherweight continue his impassioned win streak against Calvin? We’ll soon find out, so long he can avoid any dreaded injuries which have put a halt on Zabit in 2019.

Calvin Kattar (23-3-0)
Speaking of talented fighters in the Featherweight division, Calvin has wowed UFC fans since his UFC debut back in 2017. Similar to his opponent, he’s been on a tear with multiple knockout victories.
Prior to his UFC glory, Calvin spent seven years undefeated with an 8-fight win streak for Combat Zone (CZ) and Classic Entertainment & Sports (CES). Before his win streak, he spent time-fighting for organizations like EliteXC & XFC.
2017 would see Calvin make his UFC debut on short notice when Doo Hoo Choi dropped out of his scheduled fight against Andre Fili; in steps, Calvin. An impressive outing and clear unanimous victory would see him continue his career under the UFC banner. Andre Fili is no pushover, especially when making your UFC debut, so facing Shane Burgos in his second bout for the company would put Calvin in another tough fight. A 3rd round TKO would highlight the excellent boxing skills Calvin had to offer, other than an unfortunate loss to Renato Moicano, Calvin has finished all of his opponents by knockout.
Scheduled to fight at the TD Garden against Zabit gave Calvin the opportunity to fight in front of his home town crowd. Unfortunately, Zabit would pull out, causing the Featherweight bout to be re-scheduled for the Fight Night card in Russia. Convenient for Zabit with a “serious’ blood-infection somehow clearing up within 3 weeks for the Russian card in Zabit’s home town; bitter-sweet for Calvin as he got to enjoy his ‘Lauzon MMA’ team-mates walk out with some successful performances. The good news is they will fight in the main event which is good news for both parties.
Living the childhood boxing dream by taking the same route as Rocky, flying out to Russia as the underdog American in the main event fight. Calvin will now face the highly skilled mixed martial artist in hostile territory; an underdog story for the ages could play out inside the CSKA arena in Moscow, Russia.

UFC Moscow Prediction and Betting Picks
Two upper-class strikers will headline a sold-out arena in Moscow and it’s almost guaranteed to bring in a ‘performance of the night award’. The ostentatious, unpredictable style of Zabit makes for the perfect striking matchup against Calvin’s modern age MMA boxing.
Originally scheduled for 3-fifteen minute rounds, even though the fight was moved to the main event they have decided to go against a 25-minute bout. According to Calvin, Zabit’s team quickly shut-down any discussion of a 5-round matchup. This would reflect the only disadvantage that Zabit holds coming into Moscow; his cardio.
Ufc Fight Night 163 Odds 2019
Calvin Kattar offers a high-level MMA boxing style, perfect faints with combo’s high and low, precise timing whilst pressuring or counter-striking. It’ll be interesting to see how Calvin handles the versatile striking attacks Zabit will have to offer. I expect a return fire attitude, powerful & precise strikes.
Zabit will put on a show but, eventually, I expect to see him initiate a grappling exchange. The striking advantage should be in the favor of Calvin however, Zabit will be the longer guy with more tools at his disposal so, as mentioned, he will look to implement his wrestling if Calvin finds benefits with his offensive striking.
Both men offer advantages in different areas, with only 15 minutes on the clock… I predict this UFC main event will reach the judge’s scorecard. Given the variables and slightly juiced UFC odds in favor of Zabit, I don’t fancy the value available as a single bet. Teammate of Calvin, Kyle Bochniak already has the blueprint on how to take the fight to Zabi, this experience may not be Calvin’s own but can surely give him the edge to go to war with the Russian with no fear.

How Odds Work
Unlike a spread on an NFL game where one team is ahead by a certain number of points (ex. Saints +7), in MMA fights, the line on the game is called a moneyline. These are the +/- used on UFC broadcasts. The figure is how much money you have to bet in order to win $100 (-), and how much a $100 bet will earn (+).
The moneyline is perhaps best explained via example:
DERRICK LEWIS +370
CURTIS BLAYDES -470
In this fight, Blaydes is the -470 favorite, meaning if you bet $470 on him and he wins, you would profit $100. If he were to lose though, you would lose the full $470.
If you were to bet on Lewis at +370, if you bet $100 on him and he wins the fight, you will profit $370. If he were to lose the fight, you would lose your original $100 bet.
Depending on how people are betting on the fights, the odds can shift from the moment they open, right up until the night of the fights.
Some say never bet until the weigh-ins, which streamed live on The UG at Noon ET on Friday.
The sport is built on moments that make you involuntary think “HOLY F***ING S***!!!” Those can come unpredictably at any time, on any portion of the card, from any fighter. Thus, some bettors look to the underdogs, sometimes big ones, as the best bets.
As always, UG, you see any ‘dogs’ you like?
